Adult Support Group for Type 1 or Type 2 Diabetes

This free support group meets on the third Monday of each month, from 2:30-4pm. Guest speakers present information on topics of interest to help people with diabetes live healthier lives. Meetings are held in the Good Health Center Conference Room A. Registration is not necessary. Our facility is handicapped accessible and parking is free.

We Can! Childhood Obesity Program

We Can! Childhood Obesity Program

Patients with an established Unity Health Care primary care provider can participate in this program.

We Can! is a family-centered pediatric obesity program that implements an evidence-based curriculum created through NIH. The program is open to both children and their parents that access care at Upper Cardozo Health Center. In order to participate in the program, children are referred by their primary care providers. Sessions are held weekly on Wednesday evenings and focus on engaging participants in fitness activities and education on healthy eating choices. Other wellness activities include yoga, meditation, group support, and even a massage therapy pilot program to augment the effects of the program.

Howard University Hospital Diabetes Self-Management Program

American Diabetes Association recognized program for meeting the national standards for diabetes education

The program is taught by a registered dietitian and registered nurse who are Certified Diabetes Educators. Patients will enhance their knowledge on proper food selection and improved diabetes self-management skills Patients of all ages with either type 1, type 2 or gestational diabetes may be referred. Group diabetes education classes are held once a month from Tuesday - Thursday from 9 am to 12 pm. Individual diabetes education and medical nutrition therapy for diabetes are held Monday - Thursday from 9 am - 4pm. Referrals are required from a healthcare provider. Most insurances are accepted and cover the cost of this service. Please call to make an appointment.
